Geoff Mains [Edit]

Geoff Mains (1947-1989) was a leatherman and author. He is best remembered for having written the book Urban Aboriginals: A Celebration of Leather Sexuality (1984), which was later republished by Daedalus Publishing.

He was born in England and spent much of his life in Canada and later San Francisco.

In 1989, Mains and Pat Califia received the Steve Maidhof Award for National or International Work from the National Leather Association – International.

Mains died of complications from AIDS.

Legacy

Some of his papers are held at the GLBT Historical Society, which is in San Francisco, California, at the zip code 94103. The collection number for this collection of papers is 1989-03.

In 2007 the National Leather Association – International created awards for excellence in SM/fetish/leather writing; one of the awards is the Geoff Mains Non-Fiction Book Award.

He is commemorated by two panels on the AIDS Quilt.
